Showcasing Maldives at Eden Project

The High Commission of Maldives together with the Eden Project showcased Maldivian music and culture today at the Eden Project in Cornwall. The High Commissioner of Maldives Dr. Farah Faizal and the Deputy High Commissioner Naushad Waheed were warmly welcomed by Mr. Tim Smit, Chief Executive of Eden Project and his staff. Mr. Smit gave a tour to the High Commissioner around the Mediterranean and Rainforest biomes as well as Eden Project s outdoor exhibits. The High Commissioner and Tim Smit also discussed creating a Maldivian reef at Eden Project. Mr. Naushad Waheed discussed showcasing Maldivian handicrafts at their store. The possibility of a Maldivian band performing at The Eden Sessions 2010 was also discussed. Popular Maldivian rock band FasyLive and eminent Bodu Beru artists from the Maldives performed in the Mediterranean biome. The event was used to highlight the environmental fragility of the Maldives and to raise the awareness of climate change to the visitors of Eden Project. The crowd of visitors enjoyed the music and demanded for a longer performance. The Eden Project is home to the two biggest greenhouses in the world the Rainforest Biome and Mediterranean Biome. The Eden Project is an unforgettable experience in a breathtaking location; a global garden; a place of beauty and wonder. The world famous architecture and art draws inspiration from nature, the educational work is about creating a positive future in a world that is going to go through radical change, and to try to ensure everyone who visits Eden leaves knowing something more about their connection to the world. Around 1.2 million people visitEden Project annually and it has generated £700 million for the local economy. President thanks Indian President and Prime Minister

President Dr Mohamed Waheed has thanked President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, following his official visit to India from 11 to 15 May.

President Dr Mohamed Waheed has said that the measures taken by the government, in the last 100 days had encouraged unity among the people, and instilled national spirit.
